Origin

The widespread German -language name is considered as abode name for someone who lives by the stream, eg paddock by the stream, called Bachmann's farmstead in the area of Hinwil or Durnten ( 1387 ), yard to the creek in the Richterswil Berg ( 1555).

From the 15th century, a Bachmann family is proven with Coat of Arms in Bohemia, in its escutcheon two lime leaves are shown.

The coat of arms of Bachmann in Switzerland vary. In central Switzerland, the families were Roman Catholic and reformed in Zurich after the Reformation. The Bachmann coat of arms in the region of Zurich shows on Blue Background a silver flow from top left to bottom right, and two golden crescents top right and bottom left. The coat of arms of Bachmann from the Rain ( Lu) shows a silver river flowing in the middle of the shield from the top down. Left and right of the river is ever a 5 - pointed star golderner.
