The Bachtel is a mountain in the Zürcher Oberland in Hinwil in Switzerland. It is 1,115 m above sea level. M. high.

Built in 1854 the Bachtelverein on the Kulm a drinking hut. Two years later, John Ryf built a residential and commercial building with a lookout podium.

Geography

The Bachtel is between Hinwil in the northwest to the southeast and Ruti Wald ZH ZH in the southwest. He is the highest point and the southern conclude the long chain of hills between the valleys of the Töss and Jonah in the East and of the Pfäffikersee and Kempt in the West.

With the exception of Sundays, you can take the car to the summit. The streets of Hinwil and forest to Orn (925 m above sea level. M. ) are always opened to traffic.

The upper area of the mountain is predominantly forested. The lower areas are used for agriculture. On the southern slope is found at around 750 meters altitude the flight hares trick.

Destination

The Bachtel is a popular tourist destination. On the top of Bachtels is a restaurant and an observation tower, the Bachtel. A first tower was built in 1873. The present tower dates from 1986 and is 75 meters high.

Name

On the Gygerkarte of 1687, the Bachtel is listed as Bachtalberg. In the Zurich Oberland was to describe ravines with mountain streams, the term " Bach Tallen " customary. The name Bachtalberg therefore means a mountain with a stream valley.
