Back to Life is a number -one hit from Soul II Soul and first appeared as an a cappella version on their debut album Club Classics Vol 1 The following single was released on June 17, 1989, contained two new versions. The first amended the album version with instrumental accompaniment. The second is a complete re-recording of the song with modified lyrics and the title was expanded into " Back to Life ( HOWEVER Do You Want Me) ". This version was the most successful in the charts. The video with Caron Wheeler became popular on the music channels.

There are several cover versions, including one produced also as a video single by Vanessa S., which was published under the title " Ey Ey Ey / Back to Life (featuring Said) " 2003.

" Back to Life " reached high chart positions, including # 1 in the United States, Great Britain and the Netherlands in several countries.
