Backlist

As backlist all available books or music from a publisher are referred to, which are not new appeared.

A good backlist consists of a majority still easy to sell securities and so is the economic backbone of the publisher. In these works, however, apply reprint costs, and thus they are usually more profitable than new releases, which must import almost always high development and initial cost. Building a salable backlist, is the goal of every publisher.

Some publishers use the term backlist for all available books, some distinction between the definition, new releases and give the backlist.
