Backward chaining

A backward chaining (English: backward chaining ) refers to a logical inference and inference strategy of the form:

If condition then fact The alternative model is the forward chaining. Importance of these linkages, for example in the field of artificial intelligence for inference engines.

Just as the forward chaining backward chaining based on a transitive linking rules. One starts however from the target object and checks only the rules that have the target in the conclusion. If the value of an object is unknown such a rule in the premise, an attempt is made to derive these from other rules. If this is unsuccessful, then the value will eventually requested by the user.

This method is called also targeted inference.
