Bad English

Bad English was an American rock band that existed from 1988 to 1991 and was known for the hits When I See You Smile and Price of Love.

History

After the end of his band Journey in 1988 decided to Jonathan Cain (keyboards ), along with Ricky Phillips ( bass) to form a new band, the orientation should be a little rockier than it was the case with Journey. Both in the late 1970s played together in The Babys, Bad English also joined the newly founded their former singer John Waite shortly thereafter. Waite could already look back at this time some success as a solo artist, including the number one hit Missing You. With Neal Schon (guitar), also formerly active in Journey, quickly found himself the right guitarist. As a drummer suggested Already the young Deen Castronovo, who thus completed the lineup.

Released in 1989 debut album, simply titled Bad English, proved immediately successful. With the singles When I See You Smile and Price of Love succeeded Bad English, the top ten of the American singles chart to crack. The release of the album was followed by a successful tour, which extended over 11 months. The band set out shortly after the recordings of a follow-up album, but these were accompanied by a degree of tension. During early and Phillips wanted to pursue a harder direction, Waite and Cain favored rather softer material. In addition, Waite was dissatisfied with the producer of the new album, Ron Nevison, which eventually led to recording his vocal tracks with another producer. Even before publication of the second plate Backlash the resolution of Bad English had already been decided. The album sold neat, but could not build on the success of the debut. After the end of the band itself Hardline joined Schon and Castronovo. John Waite acted again as a solo artist, as well as Jonathan Cain. Ricky Phillips publications include an album with former Toto and Le Roux singer Fergie Frederiksen.
