History

Salzschlirf was first mentioned in the year 885. Just a few years ago was the year 812 as the date of the first historical mention of the town Bad Salzschlirf as Slirefa. But then sat down by the realization that the product named in a certificate Slirefa not Bad Salzschlirf, but Altenschlirf - meaning - now a part of Herb Stein. In records of 885 means the place mentioned Ulterior Slifera because he had seen of Altenschlirf ( Vetus Slirepha ) from below lies beyond the creek Slirefa. Thus, today's Bad Salzschlirf then got its name from the river on which it is located.

The development of the place was very early associated with saline sources. So already the abbots of Fulda won in the middle ages what was then important salt in the salt mines of Bad Salzschlirf. The Bonifaziusbrunnen was drilled in 1746 and helped Salzschlirf to its reputation as a spa. When the gout was still widespread and hardly treatable with medication, he was the most famous fountains gout Europe. Towards the end of the 18th century was the Fulda Prince Bishop Heinrich von Bibra drill the well deeper to increase the yield of the salt springs. This failed because groundwater entered the saline springs. 1798, the salt mines were closed.

On June 15, 1836 health ailing Count Friedrich Wilhelm von slot, called by Goertz ( 1793-1839 ), from the upper mountain and salt mining directorate in Kassel was invested with the fountain of Salzschlirf. The Bonifaziusquelle, the upper salt wells, was exposed again. In a neighboring house a bath was set up and this is filled with buckets from the source. A further expansion of the sources was omitted for the time being. But before his death, the Count had transferred the Lehnsrechte on his doctor and friend Eduard Martiny ( 1808-1876 ). This built in 1837 with the help of local farmers the bathing operation. In return for their support in developing the source Martiny granted the bathroom Salzschlirfer citizens the right to take there free water. This right applies today. 1838 Salzschlirf became a nationally recognized health resort.

The expansion of bath operation once exceeded the financial resources of the physician. So he sold the first wells to the state, but acquired it in 1873 and founded the union Bad Salzschlirf that henceforth the bath operation. After these came into financial difficulties, the bathroom was made in 1884, sold to Louis Weber, a Rhenish manufacturers.

Was a large fire on September 9, 1898 burned down almost the entire old town center. Only a few buildings, such as Hotel Deutsches Haus, remained intact.

Some scenes of the film Feuerzangenbowle with Heinz Rühmann in 1944 turned in the park near the hotel Badehof. 1973, the last fountain, the Hermann Vollrath well was drilled to a depth of 642 m. Until the 1990s, the policies took over the entire Kurbetrieb. Due to mismanagement they ran into financial difficulties and was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2000. The shell company of the GTCS was bought by private investors and renamed in 2002 in Arques.

Thanks to various investors and the community of the continued existence of major health facilities is ensured.

Economy

Spa and tourism

An important economic mainstay of the town is tourism. Much of the occupancy is due to medical rehabilitation of social service providers, formerly known as the cure. A strong impetus learned the occupation of the place by the Pension Insurance Act revision of 1957, to which the principle " rehabilitation before pension ' was introduced. The number of overnight stays increased from 368 804 in 1960 to 506 540 in 1974. 1967, the central moor bath house was put into operation. About five stories were distributed 24 Moor bathing cabins, each with three relaxation rooms, 30 Moorpackung rooms with 2 rest rooms and other rooms for medical therapeutic measures. Each Moor bathing hut and every mud pack room was supplied by a central processing and conveying system with peat. Analogue was the disposal of the abgebadeten Moors. Due to restrictive licensing practices of social service providers, the number of overnight stays decreased by the year 1978 to 300 281. Due to the decentralized structure of the health care provider and the former Kurmittelmonopol of the Policies of a preferred payers Klinifizierung of rehabilitation measures could be implemented only partially. Another burglary took place, which came into force 1 January 1997 Growth and Employment Promotion Act ( WFG ). Only the services provided by the German pension insurance benefits for medical rehabilitation erupted throughout Germany from 960 622 in 1996 to 629 752 a performance in 1997. The legally prescribed dwell time reduction from 4 to 3 weeks depending rehabilitation program and the extension of the claim intervals of 3 to 4 years showed a loss of about 50 % occupancy.

Currently there are in Bad Salzschlirf three rehabilitation clinics: The rehab clinic Naturana (136 beds), the Health Resort Dr. Wuest Mayrhofen ( 130 beds ) and the clinic Tomesa (98 beds).
