Bad Santa

Bad Santa is an American crime comedy film, in which Terry Zwigoff directed. The film was made in 2003 and was published on 18 November 2004 in Germany.

Action

Willie T. Stokes Each year, working as a department store Santa Claus, but good at his job, he is not at all: Willie drinking alcohol excessively, curses and insults the kids who sit on his lap. But not only that: Together with his diminutive sidekick Marcus, he robs from the department stores, where he works. Willie's life, however, begins to change when he meets a young boy named Thurman Merman, who lives alone with his senile grandmother and downright desperate believes in Santa Claus. Willie quartered himself unceremoniously at a Thurman and his grandmother. In addition, there are still the crafty store detective Gin, who has learned of a planned raid of the two and they blackmailed with it, as well as the attractive Sue, who raves about Santa Claus and falling in love with Willie.

Thurman teaches Willie slowly the true meaning of Christmas, while Willie teaches him how to be - strikes through life - in the truest sense of the word. Willie's partner Marcus is from this change but was not convinced.

The department store detective Gin finds out that Willie and Marcus for seven years, every Christmas Eve to rob a department store and is blackmailing her by half the loot. Marcus then creates gin out of the way and also wants to kill Willie, but is prevented from doing so by the arriving police. Willie manages to escape and he can just escape to the house of the boy. Before the house he is with his Christmas shot in the hand and arrested by the police. Shortly thereafter, one sees that Thurman has the gift even get any.

A few months later Thurman receives a letter from Willie, in which he informs him that he's fine and he will be released soon. Since Willie has a comprehensive confession and agreed to cooperate with the police, his sentence was reduced.

Tyr Burr regrets in his review for the Boston Globe While the into small rolls of Bernie Mac and Lauren Graham, but praising the acting performance by Billy Bob Thornton.

Roger Ebert praised the film Bad Santa in his column for the Chicago Sun Times as uncompromising and fun.

Background

Originally Bill Murray should take over the role of Willie T. Stokes, however, turned down in order to play in Lost in Translation can. Jack Nicholson was also interested in the role of Willie T. Stokes, but also had other commitments. Thus, the role went to Billy Bob Thornton.

The film was released in three different versions: Theatrical version (FSK 12 ) 91 minutes Extended Version (FSK 16) 98 minutes, and the Director's Cut 88 minutes. The Director's Cut has not yet been published in Germany.

Bad Santa was the last film of actor John Ritter, who died on 11 September 2003. He was devoted to the film.
