Badminton Association of Malaysia

The Badminton Association of Malaysia is the supreme national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Malaysia. The association was founded in its present form in 1964, has its precursor, however, in the Malayan Badminton Association, founded on 11 November 1934.

History

However, the formation of the Association in 1964 is not the beginning of the Badminton activities in the area of present-day Malaysia. Badminton was first played there already in the 1920s, first on the tea parties of the " Towkays " ( businessmen ). This was followed by friendlies and provincial comparisons. In 1934 founded the provinces Perak, Penang, Selangor and Singapore, the Malaysian Badminton Association. 1937 followed by the launch of the Malaysian Open, one of the oldest badminton tournaments in Asia. Shortly after the second World War, Malaya was one of the leading nations in the men's badminton.
