Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics
The XXIX. 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing five competitions were held in badminton. Each National Olympic Committee was able to use up to three players, or double pairings. For individual competitions each 38 players were qualified in Doubles events of 16 pairs.
A NOK got three slots, if all three players were placed in the top 4 of the BWF World Ranking, two if two were among the top 16, and otherwise one place each, until the 38 resp. 16 seats were filled, also each continental federation got a starting place for each discipline in a safe place. A wildcard in the men's singles and one in the women's singles were the International Olympic Committee for the "free" available. Thus therefore have 86 men and 86 women, a total of 172 athletes participated in the badminton competitions. In fact, there were but 89 men and 95 women, in total 184, but some multi- initiators were there. Main criterion for the qualification was the world rankings of Badminton World Federation from 1 May 2008.
In this tournament, posted 50 NOK athletes, compared with 33 at the 2004 Games in Athens.
