Baerenthal

Baerenthal ( German bear) is a commune with 774 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Bitche Canton. Baerenthal and neighboring Philippsbourg are the only two municipalities in the department of Moselle, which belong to the Alemannic -speaking world.

Geography

The community Baerenthal at the Northern Zinsel located in the northern Vosges, nestled in a valley landscape with streams, ponds and forests. Located near the border with Palatinate municipality is 15 kilometers away from Bitche, the nearest major town is Niederbronn- les- Bains.

North of the town is dominated by the castle ruins Ramstein on a sandstone rock.

Economy and infrastructure

The population lives mainly from agriculture and forestry. On the outskirts is the youth recreational and educational center of the city Baerenthal Youth Committee eV Karlsruhe.

L' Arnsbourg

Particularly well known the place was the hotel-restaurant L' Arnsbourg on the outskirts in Untermuhlthal, named after the nearby castle wholesale Arnsberg. In the former old forest house that has already been done for generations in the family business as a restaurant, a culinary temple of world level has evolved since 1988. Under the leadership of restaurateur - couple Nicole and Jean- Georges Klein, the house could earn three stars in the Michelin Guide and holds that level for many years. This makes it one of the best restaurants in the world. Jean- Georges Klein was selected as one of the three best chefs in France in 2007 /08 by the Michelin Guide.
