Bafia

Province

Bafia is a city in Cameroon ( Region Centre, Department of Mbam -et- Inoubou ). It is the third- largest after Yaoundé and Mbalmayo city of the province.

The city is located about 130 km north of Yaoundé in 467 m height. In 2005 lived in the town of 69 270 inhabitants ( 1987: 30 594 ), mostly members of the same ethnic group as well as members of the Yambassa. In 1968 the diocese was founded Bafia. In addition, the shares of the Christian, Islamic and animist population are approximately the same size. The city has an airport and lies on the road from Yaounde to Bafoussam. History

As shown by appropriate findings, the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. 1884 was the settlement area of ​​Bafia with Cameroon under German colonial rule. The military subjugation and integration in the German administrative structures took place only in March 1911 by the " Bafia Expedition" and the establishment of the same independent military post on the Don i tison. His job was primarily in disarming the population. In September 1912, he was lifted. The German military post located several kilometers southwest of the present city Bafia away.

1920 the area of Bafia was French. Only under French administration was the contemporary city as an administrative center. Since 1960 it is part of the independent Republic of Cameroon, but still had 1976 fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
