The Bafing ( Mande for " Black River ") is a 344 km long river in Guinea and Mali ( West Africa).

It rises in up to 1,537 m high mountains of Fouta Djallon, then flows north to Mali and closes at Bafoulabé with the Bakoyé Senegal together.

Between 1982 and 1988, a dam ( Manantali Dam ) was built at Manantali (Mali ), which impounds a reservoir nearly the size of Lake Constance. The lake is used to regulate the water level in the river. It dams the waters of the rainy season and then outputs it in the dry season continuously again, whereby the Bafing and Senegal are navigable throughout the year. In addition, this always enough water is available for irrigation agriculture along the river.

Another river of the same name flows into the river Sassandra in Côte d' Ivoire.
