British Academy Film Awards: Best Actor ( Best Leading Actor)
Winners and nominees in the category for Best Actor (Leading Actor), which honors the most outstanding performances by the actors of the past calendar year. For the first time acting awards for film actresses were awarded in 1953, in each case for the best of British and best foreign players. As with the two film categories they wanted to forestall a possible domination of foreign and especially of the U.S. film industry.
