Bagaroua

Region

Bagaroua is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Bagaroua in Niger.

Geography

Bagaroua located in the southern Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Tébaram in the north, Bambeye in the northeast, Illela in the east, Allela in the south, the west and Dogonkiria Kourfeye Centre in the Northwest. The municipality is divided into 37 administrative villages, two traditional villages, 75 hamlets, a warehouse and a water source. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Bagaroua. In the municipality of Bagaroua are the wetlands of the mare de Dan Doutchi, which were declared a 25,366 -hectare Ramsar site in 2005.

History

Bagaroua is a Hausa word meaning " Acacia". In one place administrative post in 1970 ( post administratif ) set up, one from a chef de poste administratif headed lower administrative unit. The rural community Bagaroua was removed in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Illela / Tajaé. When the floods in West and Central Africa 2010 8596 Resident of Bagaroua were classified as disaster victims, as many as in any other community in the Tahoua region. The administrative posts of Bagaroua was removed in 2011 from the Department Illela and collected at the Department Bagaroua.

Population

At the 2001 census Bagaroua had 45 112 inhabitants. For the year 2010 60.784 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Maman Chékaraou ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On 15 April 2010 the Council of Ministers Garba Fodi appointed administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) the community and Boubacar Maiga Mahamadou head of the administrative post ( chef de poste administratif ) of Bagaroua.

Economy and infrastructure

The community is located mainly in an area where the rain-fed agriculture is predominant. In the north- west zone of Agropastoralismus the zone of irrigation crop production begins in the southeast. In Bagaroua there is a significant market for the trading of cowpea and cereals. The community is connected by the National Road 15 to the departmental capital Illela.
