Bagdad, California

San Bernardino County

06-03456

Baghdad is a ghost town in San Bernardino County in the U.S. state of California. Baghdad is located in the Mojave Desert on Route 66 near the city of Barstow.

The city was founded in 1883 on the railway line from Barstow to Needles.

With the expansion of the motorway network, the neglect of the old Route 66 and the construction of the new Interstate 40, the city lost its importance and thus their inhabitants.

With the novel and the movie Out of Rosenheim, which was shot largely in the Sidewinder Cafe, which was later renamed the Bagdad Cafe in Newberry Springs on the outskirts of Baghdad, the city came to new glory, even though the actual plot of the film in a fictitious Baghdad plays in Arizona. The television series based on the film Bagdad Café.
