Baguio

Baguio City ( Ilokano: Ciudad ti Baguio; Filipino: Lungsod ng Baguio ) is a city in the north of the Philippine main island of Luzon. It is located 1500 m above sea level in the Philippine Cordilleras, and was due to the associated cooler temperatures 1910-1975 in the summer capital of the Philippines. In the winter months was the capital Manila.

Numerous high-ranking politician in the country, as well as prominent businessmen entertained in Baguio luxurious residences.

The city also reached international notoriety temporarily by the World Chess Championship 1978 between the then reigning world champion Anatoly Karpov of the former Soviet Union and his former compatriot, who fled from the Soviet Union Grandmaster and then still stateless Viktor Korchnoi.
