Bahar (unit)

The Bahar was a measure of weight in Bayt al -Faqih, a city in Yemen and Sumatra, Amboina, Banda, Batavia, Malacca and the Prince of Wales Island. Other spellings and names were Bähar, Baar, Behahr and Bhahr. In Amboyna cloves were weighed with this measure.

• Prince of Wales Island Bahar 1 = 193.53 kg
• Mocha (Yemen) 1 Bahar = 199.328 kg, and 223.422 kg, also 369.9635 kg
• Mocha (Yemen) 1 Bahar = 15 Trassel ( coffee trade )
• Bayt al -Faqih 1 Bahar = 40 Farsel / Frazil Maund = 400 = 800 Rattel / Rotoli (pounds ) = 369.9635 kg

Making a difference learned the measure by the Farsel. So corresponded to 10 Farsel in Bayt al -Faqih, exactly 7 in mocha.

In the former Portuguese Mozambique, the Bahar was also in use as a measure of weight.
