Bahodirjon Sultonov

Bahodirjon Sultonov (Russian Баходирджон Султанов Bachodirdschon Sultanov; born January 15, 1985 in Andijon ) is a former Uzbek boxer. Sultonov was bronze medalist of the World Championships in 2003 and 2009 and the 2004 Olympic Games, Asian champion in 2004 and winner of the Asian Games 2006. Moreover, he was a participant in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Career

In youth ( U17) Sultonov 2001 was world champion at flyweight (-51 kg) and at the Junior ( U19) 2002 World Champion Bantamweight (-54 kg).

2003 won Sultonov after a semi-final defeat against Gennady Kovalev, Russia ( 21:15 ), the bronze medal at the World Championships. He also won this year, the Central Asian Games in Dushanbe and the first and only time held Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad. At the Olympics the following year Sultonov reached after beating the bronze medalist of the 2004 European Championships Andrzej Liczik, Poland ( RSC 2 ) and the bronze medalist of the Pan American Games in 2003 Andrew Kooner, Canada ( 44:32 ), the semi-finals, which he compared Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux defending with 27:13 points lost and thus won an Olympic bronze medal.

2005 Sultonov met at the World Championships in the quarter- finals again on Rigondeaux and had to be beaten again give him (RSC 3 ). Things went better then again at the Asian Games in 2006, which won the Sultonov Goildmedaille. The following year he got into the Featherweight ( -57 kg ) to, but different at the Asian Championships in the first fight against Zalkar Bakirov, Kyrgyzstan, and also the 2007 World Championships ended for Suktanow already in the second round, which he against the eventual world champion Albert Selimow, Russia ( 24:9 ), lost. 2008 Sultonov won the Asian Olympic qualifying tournament in Bangkok with a final victory over Satoshi Shimizu, Japan (RSC 3 ). At the games, even he did not make it past the second round since he lost to eventual Olympic champion Vasyl Lomatschenko, Ukraine ( 13:1 ).

At the 2009 World Championships Sultonov could again win a medal. After a semi-final defeat against Sergei Wodopjanow, Russia ( 7:5 ), he won the bronze medal. In the season 2010/2011 Sultonov fought for Pohang Poseidon in the World Series of Boxing six fights but he won only two. Then Sultonov ended his career, however, took 2012 Lightweight (-60 kg) an unsuccessful comeback attempt at Askar Kulibayev Memorial Tournament in Oral.
