Baião (music)

Baião (also baiano or abaianado ) is a dance and very influential rhythm in Brazilian música Nordestina, the music of the Northeast. This is the basic rhythm with varying instrumentations most styles of this region based on: Forró Côco, Ciranda and Embolada. The baião emerged from the folk dance Baiano, who hails from Bahia and was first mentioned in 1842. Typical instruments of baião are the pandeiro, zabumba, accordion ( Sanfona ), triangle and guitar ( fantasia ).
