Baibars II.

Al -Malik al - Muzaffar Rukn al-Din Baybars II (Arabic بيبرس ) ( † 1310) was from 1308 to 1309 Sultan of the Mamluks in Egypt. He was one of the Bahri dynasty.

Baibars was since the end of the 13th century the most powerful emirs of the Mamluks in Egypt. So he led with Emir Salar by the second appointment of al -Malik al-Nasir Muhammad Sultan. However, he finished with Salar the four- year-olds from the government completely, even after the latter had won against the Il- Khans in 1303 a decisive victory. Even if after a massacre in 1306 succeeded the pacification of the Egyptian Bedouins, the empire was after a major earthquake ( 1303), campaigns against the St. John the Nile Delta, Acre and Tartosa ( 1306), and internal power struggles of Mamlukenemire in a difficult position. In this situation, withdrew an-Nasir in 1308 from Cairo in the Jordan area of the fortress Kerak back and announced his abdication.

After fleeing the puppet Baybars II has now been determined to the Sultan. Its government, however, was overshadowed by poor harvests and a severe famine in Egypt. In addition, an-Nasir used used his abdication in order to form an alliance with the Syrian Mamluks and Bedouin tribes. So successful an-Nasir already in 1309 the return to Cairo and the assumption of power. Baibars was captured and was executed in 1310.
