Baie-Mahault

Baie- Mahault is a town with 30 201 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe. Baie- Mahault is located on the eastern side of Basse -Terre and is now part of the agglomeration to Pointe -à- Pitre. The villages in the Basse -Terre were founded in 1643 by Charles Houël, who had been dispatched by the Compagnie des Iles d' Amérique, the Society of American islands. From him the name Houelbourg was derived, which appears in documents dating back to 1660. Today Baie- Mahault owns the 300 -acre industrial zone Jarry. It includes, among others, the Aéroport international, airport, World Trade Center, a logistics complex, a petroleum factory and a plantation. In addition to this industrial zone comprises the districts of Baie- Mahault Trio Celle, La Jaille, Calvaire, Moudong, La retreat, Beausoleil and Wonche. The neighboring municipalities are Petit -Bourg, Lamentin, Pointe -à- Pitre and Les Abymes.
