Bainbridge Wadleigh

Bainbridge Wadleigh ( born January 4, 1831 in Bradford, Merrimack County, New Hampshire; † 24 January 1891 in Boston ) was an American politician of the Republican Party.

Life

After attending primary school and later a private school, Wadleigh studied law. In 1850 he was admitted to the Bar Association; he subsequently practiced law in Milford.

Policy

His political activity was initially limited to the state of New Hampshire, the House of Representatives, he then again from 1859 to 1860 and finally from 1869 belonged to Republicans from 1855 to 1856, to 1872. In Milford, he was also six periods of office long head of the municipal assembly.

His nomination for the U.S. Senate on the evening of June 13, 1872 was surprising even for Wadleigh; he had not applied for it. About the candidacy chose a caucus of the Republican Party of New Hampshire. Was considered a favorite of the incumbent James W. Patterson, who was in the lead after the first three rounds of voting; Wadleigh increased in this period from three to 18 votes. In the fourth round he has already received 39 votes. Bainbridge Wadleigh belonged to the Senate March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1879. An immediate re-election was not, as some had first by the Parliament of New Hampshire. In his time in the Senate he was chairman of the Patent Committee and a member of the Election Committee. After his missed re-election, he settled as a lawyer in Boston, where he died in 1891; He was buried in Milford.
