Bains, Haute-Loire

The French community Bains is located in the Haute- Loire in the Auvergne region. The village with 1303 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) located on the historic course of the French Road to Santiago Via Podiensis.

Geography

Bains is located in the Massif Central on the D589 about 10 kilometers southwest of Le Puy -en -Velay to the Roman Via Bollène, connecting Lyon and Toulouse. The next major French cities are Lyon ( 118 km) to the northeast, Toulouse ( 243 km) to the southwest, Bordeaux (344 miles) to the west and Montpellier ( 156 km) to the south.

Attractions

  • From a castle only remains are preserved. In addition to an iron cross near the church, you can see beautiful old houses.
  • The Romanesque parish church of St. Martial of Bains dates from the 12th and 13th centuries. Until 1613 it was placed under the powerful abbey of Conques. Originally, it was the Holy Faith (St. Foy ) consecrated.
  • Not far from the village Bains Mont Bonnet is the chapel of Saint -Roch à Mont Bonnet. This small Romanesque chapel was originally dedicated to St. Bonnet, later St. Jacques and St. Roch finally (holy Rochus ). It dates from the 10th century and was rebuilt several times.

The variant of Saint- Christophe- sur- Dolaison about Bains follows the historic run of the Camino Via Podiensis. Located very close to the hamlet Fay has already been mentioned by the Knights Templar in 1236. Before Saint -Privat- d'Allier the variant reunited with the GR 65
