Geography

Baisweil lies in the Allgäu region in the north- western part of the Eastern Allgäu in the triangle between Kaufbeuren, Mindelheim and Bad Woerishofen.

Districts are Baisweil, Lauchdorf and Großried.

History

Baisweil is in the northwest of the eastern Allgäu region, in a valley surrounded by lateral moraines, at about 680 m above sea level. Here was formerly the Roman Road Kempten - Augsburg. Traces of an early settlement along the southeastern hill, date back to this time.

A first-time mention is made of the place and the castle of the lords of Baisweil under the name " Beizwile " in the year 1130. Having the local nobility, who settled on the north- westerly boundary, extinct early on Baisweil belonged from 1496 to 1803 for the Imperial Abbey Irsee. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. After a church tower collapse at the Easter Vigil in 1886 a church was built in the Romanesque style and consecrated in 1906.
