Baix Ebre

The comarca of Baix Ebre, in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of ​​1034.80 km ² and 67,050 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the south-west of Catalonia, it is bordered on the northeast by the comarca of Baix Camp and Ribera d' Ebre, North West at Terra Alta, on the south by Montsiā, on the west by the Autonomous Community of Aragon and in the east on the 79 km long coastline of the Mediterranean. Together with the Comarcas Montsiā, Ribera d' Ebre and Terra Alta is the region 's territory Terres de l' Ebre.

The Comarca extends, as viewed from east to west, from the coastal plain of the Costa Daurada through the highest part of the Sierra del Boix with peaks of 600 m height, the broad valley of the river Ebro to the Middle Mountains of the Ports de Tortosa - Beseit, with the highest survey, Mont Caro, of 1,447 m. The river Ebro flows through the Association of Municipalities in North-South direction, shortly after the capital city of Tortosa, the river changes its course, flows east and empties into a large river delta into the Mediterranean. Here the Ebro forms a natural border with the Comarca Montsiā. In the region there are two nature parks, the Parc Natural de L' Ebre Delta and the Parc Natural dels Ports.

Economy

In agriculture, rice, fruit, vegetables, cereals, almond and olive groves. The food, furniture and chemical industry are important. An increasingly important function occupies tourism.
