Baix Maestrat

The comarca of Baix Maestrat (Spanish: Bajo Maestrazgo ) is located in the province of Castellón of the Autonomous Community of Valencia (Spain). The community association has an area of 1,221 km ² and 83,971 inhabitants.

Location

This comarca located in the extreme north-east of the Valencia Autonomous Region. It is bordered on the northeast by the Catalan comarca Montsiā and to the north by the Aragonese comarca Matarraña. Boundaries from north-west to south, clockwise, the comarques Els Ports, Old Maestrat and Plana Alta to the east by the Mediterranean limited Lower Maestrat. ( Besides the two valencia Sichen Maestrats / Maestrazgos there is a third comarca in Aragon named Maestrazgo ).

Economy

In agriculture, are mainly in the coastal plain citrus and artichokes and olives grown in the higher inner Maestrat. Of great importance, particularly on the Costa del Azahar is tourism.
