Baixo Alentejo Province

Baixo Alentejo ( Portuguese for Lower Beyond - the -Tejo ) was from 1936 to 1976 one of the eleven provinces of Portugal. They exist today only in the vernacular or historically based terms.

Beja was the capital of the province. It included the territory of modern Beja District and the southern half of present-day District of Setúbal.

The term of the Baixo Alentejo referred in today's administrative divisions of Portugal, only the statistical subregion of the Baixo Alentejo.
