Bajofondo

Bajofondo is an Argentine- Uruguayan tango Electro project of producer and musician Gustavo Santaolalla and Juan Campodónico from the region of the Río de la Plata. Originally called Bajofondo Tango Club, the name was changed in 2007 to just Bajofondo to reflect the broader spectrum of music ( "New Music from the Río de la Plata " ) account.

Meaning of the name

Bajo fondo is a play on words and allows for multiple interpretations: In Buenos Aires are under this term the villas miserias understood. In this sense, bajo fondo means lower end ( the social scale ). Another translation of the word would be bass background. At the same time it is also an allusion to the ground and his associations with hidden places and wicked places throughout the myth of the Tango accordingly.

The group has set itself the goal to interpret the Tango from the point of view of modern musical styles like trip-hop, House, Chill Out and drum and bass. On the first, simply Bajofondo Tango Club -titled album contains songs of different musicians, all of which were produced by the two founders of the project. The album was honored in 2003 with a Latin Grammy in the category "Best Pop Instrumental Album " as well as with the Argentinean Music Prize Premio Gardel in the category " Dance / Electronica ".

2004 produced Santaolalla and Campodónico together with the already represented on the first album musician Luciano Supervielle Album Bajofondo Tango Club presents: Supervielle.

In a commercial for Shell, the song of Montserrat Bajofondo was used in 2007.

Appeared in 2007 under the new name Bajofondo Mar Dulce the CD. Mar Dulce is the poetic name of up to 250 km wide Rio de la Plata. Among the guest musicians are among other Nelly Furtado, Mala Rodriguez, Elvis Costello, Gustavo Cerati, Juan Subirá and died in 2006 at the age of 82 years Lágrima Ríos with their last recordings.
