Bajram Curri

Bajram Curri (* 1862 in Gjakova; † 29 March 1925 Dragobi, Circle Tropoja ) was an activist of the Albanian national movement.

He sat in the Ottoman Empire for the interests of the Albanians and fought successfully against the Young Turks in 1912. During World War II, he led a guerrilla force. In the newly founded state of Albania he took in various governments post here as a minister and as a commander in the army. As an opponent of the later King Ahmet Zogu, the Kosovo issue was less important, he was pursued by the troops and then surrounded in the northern Albanian Alps. He shot himself on March 29, 1925 to avoid capture.

The Albanian communists kept his reputation high as nationalists and freedom fighters and even named a town after him.

Bajram Curri was married and had two daughters. The family lived in Shkodra, after they had to flee from Kosovo.
