For the 2007/2008 season the fans were able to vote if the team is to receive a new name. The choice was between the names: Bakersfield Desperados, Bakersfield Roughnecks, Bakersfield Oilers or continue Bakersfield Jam. The fans decided to that the name Bakersfield Jam should continue to have existed.

Because of the small fan base in Bakersfield there have been rumors that the jam would set the game mode. But these were promptly denied by the leadership of the team.
