Bakhmach

Bakhmach (Ukrainian and Russian Бахмач ) is a city and an important railway junction in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine and the center of the Rajons same name.

History

The place Bakhmach was first mentioned in 1781. An important stimulus for the development of settlement in the 60s of the 19th century by connecting to the railway network. In March 1918, there were battles between advancing German units and troops belonging to the French army Czechoslovak Legion. On October 15, 1938, the town was elevated to city status. During World War II a Russian regiment of Merit was awarded in battle of honor name Bakhmach on September 9, 1943.

Infrastructure and Transport

The city has four general-education secondary schools, in which a device consists of a night school, a museum of local lore, eight libraries, a central Rajonkrankenhaus, three polyclinics, a cultural club, a club of railroad workers and a house of students.

Bakhmach is located at the intersection of railway lines Kursk - Kiev and Ljubaw - Romny. The town has two railway stations: Bakhmach - Kijiwskyj and Bakhmach - pasaschyrskyj.
