History and General

The first plans for the underground construction in Baku already existed in the 1930s. However, because of the outbreak of the Second World War, the construction had to be stopped first. It was not until 1947 the building was decided by decree of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union. The first phase with just ten kilometers from Baki soveti (now İçərişəhər ) to Nəriman Nərimanov went a long construction period on November 6, 1967 in operation. In the 1970s and 1980s, the metro system was expanded, as was, for example, in 1985, as the second ( "green" ) line intended route of Nizami Gəncəvi to Memar Əcəmi in operation. Architecturally oriented themselves in the construction of the stations heavily on Moscow model, which many of the stations were given a magnificent design.

Line network

The Baku Metro for the originally planned system with two lines was not implemented until finally today, as planned as a switch node station Cəfər Cabbarlı has not yet been developed for this purpose. As a result, the second line currently consists of only the single-track two -kilometer section between the two stations Cəfər Cabbarlı and Shah Ismail Xətai, while the remaining metro routes is operated as a single ( branched ) line on which trains alternating between Həzi Aslanov and İçərişəhər (originally Baki soveti ) or run between Həzi Aslanov and Azadliq prospective or between İçərişəhər and Bakmil.

Access to the platforms is controlled by access locks that allow the crossing only after applying an RFID chip card.
