Baku Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art ( Azerbaijani Müasir İncəsənət Muzeyi (MIM ) ) is founded in 2009 in Baku, Azerbaijan museum especially for modern and contemporary Azerbaijani art.

History

The museum was opened in the presence of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Director-General Koichiro Matsuura of UNESCO on 20 March 2009.

Concept

In the museum, over 800 works of Azerbaijani painters and sculptors who work mainly in the style of avant-gardism are issued. In the museum there is also a hall for children's art, a library, a video room, a restaurant and an art café.

Collection

In addition to some classic exponents of modern art from private collections such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, in particular the Russian avant-garde like Marc Chagall and Wassily Kandinsky, works of Səttar Bəhlulzadə, Böyükağa Mirzəzadə, Elmira Şahtaxtinskaya, Tahir Salahov, Ömər Eldarov or Nadir Əbdurrəhmanov be shown.
