Balangir (also Bolangir, Oriya: ବଲାଙ୍ଗୀର ) is a town in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the main town of the same name in the same district Tehsil. In Balangir live 85 203 inhabitants (2001 ), 1991 there were 69 920. 51.86 % of the population are male and 48.14 % are women. Is predominantly spoken Oriya, Hindi and English.

Balangir is situated on the section of highway NH 201 of Bargarh and Bhawanipatna and has a railway station.

Balangir was founded by Balaram Deo, the 12th king of Patna in the middle of the 16th century. From 1880 was Balangir capital of the principality.
