Balashov (town)

Balashov (Russian Балашов ) is a town in Saratov Oblast (Russia) with 82 227 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

In the Soviet Union existed from 1954 to 1957, a Oblast Balashov within the RSFSR.

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Volga -plate, Chopjor ( a tributary of the Don ), which divides the city into two parts. While one side is like a village mittelrussischem by predominantly single storey, self-catering cottage, the other side of the river is characterized by usually two or three, sometimes multi-storey prefabricated Soviet style.

The town is also a railway junction and is between the railway lines Tambov - Located Pensa - Kamyshin and Poworino. Three stations are located in the city: Balashov -1, Balashov -2 and Balashov Pass. The station was Balashov by the Company of the Ryazan -Ural Railway ( Рязано - Уральская железная дорога ) in the construction of the railway line Tambov - built Kamyshin.

History

Balashov built in the 18th century as a village called Balaschowo (named after the family name of the then local owner ) and received the city status in 1780. In the 19th century the place had, among others, for the sale of grain importance.

From 1954 was Balashov administrative seat of the oblast, which had been formed from components of the Saratov oblasts, Stalingrad, Voronezh and Tambov and in 1957 was dissolved.
