Balatonföldvár
Balatonföldvár is a city on a small area Balatonföldvár in Somogy county in Transdanubia, West Hungary. It lies on the southern shore of Lake Balaton ( Balaton German ), between Balatonszárszó and Zamárdi located about 120 kilometers from Budapest and is the administrative center of the retail area. Covering an area of 15.32 km ² live 2041 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).
The M7 motorway runs south from the resort.
History
The area of Földvár has been around for several thousand years, a settlement area, was their initial written mention in the 11th century. In its place was a Celtic earthwork, Hungarian = Földvár which the place derives its name.
Since 1895 Földvár is a seaside resort. This development is closely connected with work of the Hungarian diplomat Dénes Széchenyi, a son of the founder of the Hungarian National Museum, Ferenc Széchenyi, which Somogyvár 1870 and at Lake Balaton wanted to build a resort. To this end he commissioned gardeners, architects and medical professionals with the establishment of the spa and resort facilities that extend to over 45 acres.
1950 was Földvár a separate municipality, which in 1985 merged with the towns of Köröshegy, Kereki, Pusztaszemes and Bálványos the greater community, which was converted to a kistérség (small area ) to the local government reform in 2003, which has now risen to become one of the most important resorts on the southern shore of Lake Balaton.
Balatonföldvár is now a modern seaside resort with approximately 8,000 beds and a beach which is about 5,000 guests and also has an open air theater and an outdoor cinema.
