The Bald Mountain is a mountain in the south of the U.S. state of Idaho near the town of Ketchum ( Blaine Country ). The Bald Mountain is the central mountain of Sun Valley ski resort. It is known the massif for the long runs with challenging slopes and many different levels of difficulty. The mountain in the Sawtooth National Forest belongs in Idaho Smoky Mountains to the Most High.

Generally

The north-eastern flank of the mountain rises 1036 m above the adjacent valley. The mountain is accessible by 14 ski lifts, 75 ski slopes and there are a total of 8.31 km ² slopes, of which 2.64 km ² mostly artificial snow. 36 % of the slopes are easy, 42 % intermediate and 22 % difficult. Before the Bald Mountain is the Dollar Mountain, which is also accessible by ski lifts. On this mountain there are only slight slopes.

The Bald Mountain is independent of the Bald Mountain Ski Area ( a smaller ski mountain near Pierce ( Clearwater Country ) ).

History

In the 1940s, the Bald Mountain was opened up for skiing with initially three lifts. The lifts ranged up to 2749 m altitude just below the summit.

Trivia

In a series of NBC's " 10.5 Apocalypse" has been suggested that the Bald Mountain is an extinct volcano would erupt to this. The ashes of the erupting volcano would bury the whole ski area and the adjacent towns and villages.
