Baldo Angelo Abati

Baldo Angelo Abati (also Abbati; Baldus Angelus Abbatius; * in Gubbio ) was an Italian physician and medical professionals. He lived in the second half of the 16th century.

Baldo Angelo Abatis book De natura et de admirabili viperae mirificis eiusdem facultatibus liber ( published in 1589 in Urbino), was one of the first books about snakes. It was Francesco Maria II della Rovere, the 6th Duke of Urbino, devoted. A second edition appeared in 1591 in Urbino, a further 1603 in Nuremberg. The latter lived to 1660 also has two editions. Five of the 32 book chapters deal with effects and medical applications of snake venoms. Chapter 14 Abbati, who had dissected a rattlesnake counts on the edible parts of the snake and provides information about different ways of cooking the snake meat.
