Baldwin City is a city in Douglas County in the U.S. state of Kansas and is located south of Lawrence. According to the census in 2000 Balwin City had 3400 inhabitants. The city, which is crossed by U.S. Highway 56, still has plenty of quiet, brick paved roads. It is the seat of Baker University, the oldest university in the state.

The city was named after John Baldwin, who at this point was built in 1857 the first sawmill and the first flour mill.
