Balkan Black Box Festival

Balkan black box is currently the only art and culture festival on South Eastern Europe in Germany. It was founded in 1999 and is since then once a year in Berlin. Over the period of a week of films, exhibitions, literature, theater, performance, music and discussions and presents over Southeastern Europe.

Concept

The festival was founded with the aim to present art and culture from the post-socialist countries in the Balkans. And in light of the fact that the Balkan societies for many Western European countries are still a "black box ". In the years since its founding in 1999, the image of the Balkans has significantly evolved and changed. This is the reason that during the festival always new questions are posed in the context of current processes of change and move different topics in the center. Thanks to the specific orientation and uniqueness of balkan black box the festival now comes to nationwide attention.

Organization

The festival is supported by a group of international cultural workers, in different - standing relationships with South-East Europe - biographical and / or expertise. The core team currently consists of about 15 people ( Stand: 11 /2008). Because of the open structure of many fruitful collaborations have emerged in the course of time, especially to Berlin migrant groups, cultural institutions in Berlin and cultural institutions and organizations in Southeastern Europe.

Programs 1999-2008

Film Competition Golden Black Box

Since 2004 is part of the festival an international film competition in the categories of feature, documentary and short film instead. 2006 also saw the first awards in the areas of "newcomers" and "Human Rights Award". The competition recognizes in particular critical film productions from South East Europe and aims in this regard to the promotion of independent reporting.

Conditions

Financing:

Bbb was funded to date primarily by cultural institutions in Berlin. In addition, political foundations, embassies of South Eastern Europe as well as private sponsors were involved in the financing.
