Balkan Pact (1953)

The Balkan Pact was a closed in Bled on August 9, 1954 military alliance between Turkey, Greece and Yugoslavia. On February 28, 1953, the three Balkan countries in Ankara had signed a treaty of friendship. The military alliance was concluded for a period of 20 years to counter a potential threat from the Soviet Union and its allies. After the 20-year contract period Yugoslavia did without a renewal or extension of the alliance.
