History

The Greek hospital Balıklı was originally established in 1753 by an Ottoman government edict as Yedikule Hospital. The hospital was founded and built by the Union of Greek grocer. The immediate goal of the hospital was to assist in the control of epidemics and common diseases. However, the hospital was heavily damaged in a 1790 fire, which destroyed completely the structure.
