Ballendorf

Ball village with its little haven Mehrstetten is a municipality in the Alb -Donau-Kreis in Baden- Württemberg.

The municipality belongs to the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Langenau with headquarters in Langenau.

Geography

Geographical Location

Ball village is located between the " hunger fountain" in Altheim and the Lone valley in the Swabian Alb. The place is located in a depression at the beginning of the Lone open towards Mönchtals and is almost entirely surrounded by forest.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by the district of the town of Dettingen Gerstetten in Heidenheim district, on the east by Setzingen, to the south and to the west by Nerenstetten Börslingen and Altheim ( Alb).

History

The town was first mentioned in 1143. Apart from the plague and cholera ball village was hit by a catastrophic poor harvest in 1817, which led to a large number of ball villages emigrated to America. In the later years of the 18th and 19th century, the male ball villages were known for their drinking and belligerence.
