Characteristics and technology

Standard dances are dances movement in which the dancer is covering ground - depending on the dance more or less quickly - move. Here, the Tango is a walking dance, other dances are called swing dances. Another feature of the ballroom dances is the physical contact, through which the dance partners remain connected without interruption.

The Latin American dances on the other hand, the second group of the tournament dances, which also consists of five dances are danced more stationary and largely without physical contact.

The body contact in the ballroom dances requires a high degree of balance, posture and reciprocal leadership. Movement, balance and posture then ensure a harmonious flow of movement of the couples. The Lord guides: He dances frequent forward and overlooks the dance floor and thus the sequence of FIGS. Run means using the body decided with its stable contact surfaces by moving the center of gravity in moving forward. On the action of the Lord immediately followed by the reaction of the lady and an overall harmonious concerted action of the couple. If the lady in the forward action is, then she has the overview of the area and gives only information about the free space in front of them; however, it continues to lead the Lord.

Attitude and leadership

Standard dances are performed in closed dance position. The four swing dances ( Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep ) sets the Lord 's right hand with fingers closed on the lower part of the left scapula of the lady. The left hand of the lady is placed on the right upper arm of the Lord. The lady engages with the thumb and middle finger (sometimes additionally index finger) between deltoid and triceps. The right hand of the lady is in the left hand of the Lord between the thumb and forefinger and is surrounded by the fingers of the Lord. It is held (or the smaller dance partner) at eye level of the lady in the ideal case, and should even at considerable size differences do not exceed the maximum height of the lady. The lady is holding her arms while itself

As the tango is a border - and not a swing dance, the attitude of the other ballroom dances is different. The Lord leads the lady in the first place with his body, ie with the right part of the chest and the pelvis ( usually in tango down to the knee). The two arms are used to give the lady a framework in which they can move. The right hand of the Lord is in the Tango somewhat lower than in the swing dances and the fingertips up to the backbone of the lady. The left hand of the lady also goes further to the men and lies horizontally with the fingers extended at the back of the right arm of the Lord.

Characteristic of some ballroom dances is that never ever turn the dancer with figures to their own, but about a common axis.

The leadership of the dance partner builds on the knowledge on which step sequences are possible and can be the points at which the dance partner moved slightly by a pulse in a new direction. Both dance partners must therefore step sequences as well as the sequence of equilibrium ( stable, unstable ) know the dances.

American Smooth

International Style refers to the way the standard dances, as they are in Europe, from the UK, danced. In contrast, the American Style is the kind of dancing that is cultivated in the United States. A striking difference consists, for example, that the American style in the " ballroom dances " (American Smooth called ) the lady is led in solo turns and is resolved to the closed position. Be danced only four dances: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz.
