Ballybunion

Ballybunion or Ballybunnion ( Irish: Baile an Bhuinneánaigh ) is a resort on the coast of County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland. The village with 1365 inhabitants ( 2006) located 15 kilometers from the town of Listowel. Other attractions in the area include a castle, of which only one wall has more, and the trails along the sometimes very steep cliffs, formed by the tidal caves, a prehistoric middens, a dolphin population and highly acclaimed surf waves.

In the Irish railway history Ballybunion has a meaning, because here in 1888 with the Listowel Ballybunion Railway was opened the world's first commercial monorail.

In Ballybunion there are two golf courses. The Ballybunion Golf Club finished the 2002 11th place on the list of best U.S. American magazine Golf Magazine.

The place is also known for its seaweed baths and the beach cooked snails that sold like popcorn in paper bag.
