The Balmberg is combines a Swiss Pass in the canton of Solothurn, the Nova pipe and Günsberg. The Balmberg south side is a well-developed post bus route, which is served from Solothurn. She is always well maintained, even in winter. The Balmbergstrasse North from Welsch tube is around 25 %, one of the steepest mountain roads of Switzerland, if not the steepest in the country at all. At its lower end, therefore, there is a sign, and in winter the road is closed. The road is also very narrow, so that cars sometimes have to reset to let oncoming traffic pass. The Balmberg was already several times stage of the Tour de Suisse. In the years 1969, 1972, 1978, 1981, 1985, 1990 and 1993 respectively found a mountain time trial over 12 kilometers from Solothurn place on the Balmberg.
