Baloncesto León

Baloncesto León was a Spanish basketball club from Leon.

History

The club was founded in 1981. Launched in the fourth division, one rose in 1986 in the second highest league, Liga Española de Baloncesto on. In the 1989/90 season, the team took second place after the main round. In the subsequent play-offs for promotion you sat through and thus came into the premier league, the ACB league. While the team in its first season in the top flight league could only hold tight, it rose in the following years. 1992 and 1993 respectively the quarter-finals of the play-offs has been achieved for the championship. CB Estudiantes and Real Madrid sat there through against Leon.

1993 came the team also reached the quarter- finals of the Korać Cup, one European Basketball Cup.

After three years in which you landed after the main round in midfield and missed the play-offs, the advance was achieved in the 1996/97 season back in the quarter-finals. Like five years ago you was eliminated by CB Estudiantes. This should be the last part in play-offs for the Spanish title. In the season 1999/ 00 Baloncesto León rose after ten years of continuous membership from Premiership have finished last.

After seven years and repeated failure scarce, it worked in 2007 with the rise back in the ACB league. This year, the club also won the Spanish basketball trophy for second division, Copa Principe de Asturias. Back in Division 1, the club could not match the consistency in the 90s and were relegated straight back. There followed three participations in the quarter-finals in the battle for the rise, which went all lost. After the 2011/12 season, the club could no longer maintain the operation of gambling because of high debt and broke up.

With Fundación Baloncesto León there is a new club in Leòn.
