Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros

Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros y la Torre (* 1755 or 1756 or 1758 in Cartagena, † June 9, 1829 ) was a Spanish admiral and viceroy.

Life

Baltasar de Cisneros took 1805 as a naval officer at the Battle of Trafalgar in part and from 1807 to 1809 in the Spanish resistance to the French occupation during the Revolutionary War.

In 1809 he was appointed Viceroy of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, where he replaced Santiago de Liniers. He was deposed during the May Revolution on May 25, 1810 by insurgents, whose goal was independence from Spain.
