Baltazar (footballer)

Baltazar ( born January 14, 1926 in Santos, † 25 March 1997 in São Paulo; actually Oswaldo da Silva ) was a Brazilian football player. He played as a striker and was named because of his heading ability Cabecinha de Ouro ( gold head ).

Career

In its 1943-1959 plus career Baltazar played for five clubs, among which the most famous Corinthians was. He scored 267 goals, of which 71 per head.

Baltazar was Brazil's national team, and participated in the World Championships in 1950 and 1954. The 1950 World Cup in their own country was tragic: In the deciding match between Brazil needed only a draw and one lost against Uruguay. Baltazar, who scored twice in the tournament, one of the four players who were still in 1954 remained in the Brazilian squad. In Brazil's qualification for the 1954 World Cup he scored five of the eight Brazilian goals. In the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland Baltazar met once. Brazil arbitration against the favorites Hungary in the quarterfinals. The game in Wankdorfstadion was due to numerous Unsportsmanlike conduct during the game and then as the Battle of Berne in the World Cup history.

He died in 1997 at the age of 71 years.
